Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) continue to report confidence in the technology sector with job growth, in spite of declines in other industries. New tech hires have continued for 22 consecutive months, with more than 80,000 new hires in September 2022. Analyses from leading tech consultancy firms conclude that IT jobs availability and hiring remain positive.
“Based on our analysis, the IT job market and opportunities for IT professionals will continue to be positive, but not as broad in scope as in the first nine months of 2022,” said M. Victor Janulaitis, CEO of Janco Associates. “CIOs are still posturing to higher staff and expand technologies to address blockchain processing and security applications based on market conditions. However, most hiring will be limited to positions due to attrition, not staff expansion.”
Lucas Mearian, Senior Reporter for ComputerWorld, pulls the data and analysis together in his article “How Many Jobs Are Available in Technology in the U.S.?” citing that while “IT job growth has continued each month for over a year…CIOs and CFOs have started to slow the rate at which they’re creating new IT jobs due to inflation.”
“Job postings for new hiring were down 12% from August, but still totaled just over 300,000. Positions in software development and engineering, tech support, tech project management, systems engineering, and network engineering were in highest demand according to CompTIA” in their latest Tech Jobs Report.
Technology salaries also showed a significant growth from 2021 to 2022, regardless of onsite or remote work situations.
Tim Herbert, Chief Research Officer at CompTIA, notes that “stability in tech hiring continues to be an over-arching theme this year. Despite all the economic noise and pockets of layoffs, aggregate tech hiring remains constantly positive.”
